December 9, 2024Trump’s Loyalists vs. Obama’s Wingman
Presidents typically want a team that is loyal, ideologically aligned, and dedicated to advancing their agenda. This desire is evident in their selections for cabinet members, advisors, and other senior officials who will help them implement their policies. Eric Holder, former Attorney General under President Barack Obama, famously referred to himself as Obama’s “wingman,” which underscored the trust and close working relationship between them. Holder’s statement highlighted that presidents often prefer appointing individuals who will uphold their vision and work cooperatively with them.
Appointing loyalists is a way for presidents to navigate the complexities of Washington, DC, especially when facing potential pushback from other branches of government or within the vast federal bureaucracy. Having trusted allies in key positions allows a president to advance their agenda more effectively and to have confidence that their appointees will not deviate from their strategic goals. Presidents historically have leaned towards selecting officials they believe will be committed allies, a trend underscored by Holder’s “wingman” comment, as it reflects a broader norm in American presidential politics where loyalty, trust, and ideological alignment are key considerations for these appointments.
Don’t be fooled by the press and their Orwellian way with words. When you hear the term “Trump loyalists” understand that that is projected as a pejorative misdirection by the leftist media who is working for the goals of the Democrat Party. Nothing is wrong, abnormal, or questionable about any president picking his cabinet members aligned with the president’s goals and aspirations. The press has not learned anything from the presidential election of 20024 and continues on its path of modern 21st Century Orwellian Newspeak.
