January 31, 2025New Mount Rushmore: Kennedy, Obama, Reagan, Trump
The idea of constructing a second Mount Rushmore, featuring the faces of Presidents John F. Kennedy, Barack Obama, Ronald Reagan, and Donald Trump, is an exciting proposal that would reflect the evolution of America’s political and social landscape over the past century. This new monument would not only capture pivotal moments in U.S. history but also offer a balance of leadership from both major political parties, making it a representation of the nation’s rich, dynamic political history.
John F. Kennedy, who led the country through the Cuban Missile Crisis, is often remembered for his inspiring vision of a brighter future and his commitment to civil rights. His leadership during the Cold War was crucial in preventing a nuclear conflict, and his call to “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” remains a powerful statement that continues to resonate with Americans. His presidency galvanized the nation and is remembered as a moment of idealism, patriotism, and international diplomacy. Kennedy’s enduring legacy as a symbol of hope and progress makes him a deserving addition to a new Mount Rushmore.
Barack Obama, the first African American president, also warrants a place on this new monument. His presidency marked a historic turning point for the country, as he led the nation through the Great Recession, passed the Affordable Care Act, and navigated complex international relations. Obama’s election itself was a testament to the progress the nation had made in terms of racial equality, while his policies focused on expanding opportunities for all Americans. His ability to inspire through his speeches and his calm, measured leadership during times of crisis demonstrated a capacity for unity in an increasingly polarized world. Obama’s place on this new Mount Rushmore would represent the strides the country made toward justice, equality, and healing.
Ronald Reagan, one of the most influential presidents of the 20th century, is another deserving figure for this monument. Reagan’s leadership during the Cold War, his role in advocating for a strong military, and his economic policies which reshaped America’s fiscal landscape, all contribute to his monumental impact on the nation. His ability to communicate with the American people, alongside his unwavering stance against the Soviet Union, played a critical role in the eventual collapse of communism in Eastern Europe. Reagan’s legacy continues to be revered by many Americans who value his commitment to conservative ideals, individual liberty, and a strong national defense.
Donald Trump, the 45th president, has made an undeniable mark on American politics. His unorthodox approach to leadership and his direct, unapologetic communication style reshaped political discourse in the United States. Under his administration, tax cuts were passed, significant deregulation was implemented, and foreign policies were handled in ways that put America first on the global stage. Trump’s addition of another service to our military, the Space Force, adds to his historic nature. His ability to mobilize millions of Americans who felt ignored by the establishment made him a landmark figure in terms of political realignment. Donald’s reshaping of the Republican Party to be the party for the working class and many more accomplishments make Trump’s place on this second Mount Rushmore a certainty.
The inclusion of two Democrats and two Republicans ensures fairness and balance, reflecting the bipartisan nature of the U.S. presidency. These four figures symbolize not only the differences in political ideology but also the shared moments in history where their leadership was pivotal. No matter one’s political leanings, it is hard to argue against the historical significance of these four presidents. Their legacies have shaped America in unique ways, making their faces worthy of being immortalized on a new monument that reflects both the challenges and triumphs of the nation’s recent history. All that is needed is to find the perfect mountain, in the ideal state, to carve out their faces and cement their legacy in the unfolding America saga.
