America First Movement: The Fight Against NATO

July 30, 2024J.D. Vance: Beware of MAGA Conversions
I do not know much about this political neophyte J.D. Vance. I never read his book or saw the movie. I don’t live in Ohio and all I have known is a little bit from his television appearances. I can see the growth from him on how to handle the press, but it has been painful to watch as he learns. So, Trump picked him, and dispute the leftist-leaning press saying so, that would not have been the pick for many of us in the America First Movement.
I started to research this guy after Trump’s announcement. I found out JD is an author, lawyer, politician, and venture capitalist. JD served in the United States Marine Corps, so that is on the good side. Those other professions, some of them, not so much. I read JD was born in Middletown, Ohio, and attended Ohio State University where he graduated summa cum laude. Vance got his degree in 2009 and was accepted and graduated from Yale Law School in 2013.
He wrote a New York Times bestselling book called Hillbilly Elegy, which I have not read. I have written many books, but cannot claim that kind of accomplishment, so that gets my attention. I did research the theme of the book and movie and have a peripheral idea of the narrative. I had to go look up the word “elegy” and I fancy myself as a wordsmith. Vance defeated that Democrat two-faced Tim Ryan in the 2022 Senate election in Ohio. I did not like Tim, so this falls on the good side for J.D. Vance.
JD has an interesting backstory. His background is very impressive, he came from nothing, and then all of what he did to rise from that was pretty damn admirable. However, I’ve already seen some videos where he said some really harsh stuff about Trump before his “so-called conversion” to the America First Movement. JD looked right into the camera and said he was a never-Trumper. It wasn’t that he was anti-Trump, but rather he was “strongly” anti-Trump. So, that I would say is on the bad side. Right now, I’m going to hold my powder on the guy. I guess that figure of speech is no longer appropriate after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
I’ll try to make time to see his movie this week to get a better idea of the man. After all, it’s about his life coming from abject poverty. Vance’s rise to the vice-presidential nominee of the Republican Party, well, that is a hell of a journey. I just don’t know yet, and I don’t know enough to say either way whether this is good or bad for us. I have no idea if he just fooled the old man to get in his good graces or what. Vance is thirty-nine years old, and let’s just say I have not been dazzled by the Millennial generation. For me, when I see never-Trumpers convert to America First and MAGA, I am very suspicious that they are opportunists.
