January 1, 2025Bird Flu: Gain-of-function Rince and Repeat
Gain-of-function (GOF) research involves modifying viruses to study their potential to infect humans, aiming to inform public health strategies. In the past, several institutions have conducted such studies on avian influenza (bird flu). The dangers of “Gain-of-Function” research are just as deadly if not more pernicious than nuclear weapons. Gain-of-function (GOF) research, which involves enhancing the transmissibility, pathogenicity, or host range of viruses, poses significant risks despite its potential benefits.
Playing around with this in a laboratory is a danger to the entire population of Planet Earth. While such studies aim to predict and prevent pandemics by understanding how viruses evolve, they inherently carry the danger of catastrophic consequences along with inherited possibilities that fall into the wrong hands and are used as weapons of mass destruction.
We learned with COVID-19 that the primary risk lies in accidental or purposeful laboratory leaks. Even in high-security labs, errors occur and evil people roam. For instance, the 1977 H1N1 flu pandemic is suspected to have originated from a lab. A leak involving a highly transmissible and lethal pathogen could trigger a global outbreak, with mortality rates potentially exceeding those of natural pandemics.
Another danger is dual-use misuse. Knowledge and techniques from GOF research could be exploited by malicious actors to develop bioweapons of mass destruction. Unlike traditional weapons, engineered pathogens can spread uncontrollably, targeting populations indiscriminately or tailored to target one group more than another.
Moreover, the uncertainty of GOF experiments exacerbates their danger. Viruses can behave unpredictably when modified, and the adaptations observed in the lab might not accurately reflect real-world scenarios. This raises ethical concerns about the justification of creating potential superviruses without a guarantee of their applicability to public health.
The lack of global consensus and oversight further complicates matters. While some nations impose strict regulations, others may not, leading to inconsistent safety standards. This fragmented approach heightens the risk of dangerous pathogens being handled irresponsibly.
Finally, the public’s trust in science is undermined when GOF research leads to an accidental outbreak like at the Wuhan Lab with COVID-19. The perception of scientists creating hazards rather than solving problems does fuel fear and resistance to necessary public health measures.

Notable Institutions and Studies:
- University of Wisconsin–Madison (USA): In 2011, researchers led by Yoshihiro Kawaoka engineered the H5N1 avian influenza virus to spread among ferrets via respiratory droplets, enhancing its transmissibility among mammals.
- Erasmus University Medical Center (Netherlands): Similarly, Ron Fouchier’s team conducted experiments on H5N1, enabling the virus to spread among ferrets through the air, raising concerns about its potential to infect humans.
- Harbin Veterinary Research Institute (China): Under the leadership of Chen Hualan, this institute has conducted research on avian influenza, including studies on the H7N9 virus, focusing on its evolution and potential to infect humans.
- Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (Germany): This institute has been involved in research on avian influenza, including studies on the virus’s evolution and potential to infect humans.
In the United States, for example, the Department of Health and Human Services has established the Potential Pandemic Pathogen Care and Oversight (P3CO) framework to review and oversee such studies, but who can believe any of these people after what happened with COVID-19?
As of now, it looks like they mess with these viruses in the lab, turn them into contagious monsters that never could jump to humans before, create vaccines for the very virus they created, the virus gets out, they push vaccines on the population, and in the end, the drug companies and others make more money than you could ever dream of.
Then, they do it all over again, looks like the next one is Bird Flu and the world goes “rinse and repeat” and nobody stops any of this. Understand, bird flu, or avian influenza A(H5N1), has a case fatality rate (CFR) of over 50% in humans. The “population control” cultists must love that. None of this is a conspiracy theory, it is all public record on open source, imagine what is hidden. It is estimated that COVID-19 killed over 20 million people worldwide, Bird-Flu could make that look like Romper Room.
