J.D. Vance: Beware of MAGA Conversions

I sit in amazement watching our President reside over the most insane group of people I’ve ever seen in the history of my life, Progressives. Day after day it takes my breath away watching it all. I’m not the smartest person in the country or the smartest guy in cyberspace. However, rocket science is not required here. No, my friends, only a soul or a conscience is all that is needed to have a peripheral common-sense look. I guess what vexes me is the abject ignorance of the Palestine protesters here in America. Where is all the common sense? Where are all the smart people to explain history to these malcontents? Where are the leaders that will stand up and face the juggernaut of anti-Semitism head-on and fight it? I’m waiting. I am still waiting, but nothing of real substance yet. My soul stirs when I think of it all. I care, that has to be my problem, I care. I care about the sanctity of life and the concept that Israel has a right to exist, I just care.
It is so clear to me and a handful of others where this country is headed and there seems to be this free-fall feeling that a lot of us get. It extends to the feeling we are having over freedom and the direction of our country, and the world. Watching something like NBC and other’s coverage of the Israel and Hamas war is head-spinning. Watching what we grew up with and how it all has changed for the worse with our press is a heartbreak. To live in a country that no longer has anything that resembles a free press is dark. Watching and listening to the justification of all this by the Left is nauseating.
I must admit that I have always been a rock for Israel because of its historic nature. I have always been a defender of this country and its people. However, I’m starting to perceive that there is about half of this country that would be happier with a bunch of terrorists getting the upper hand. Happier with less freedom for the common good of all Jews, in their minds. I try to process this all in my head, but my heart gets in the way, and I mourn. I want to fight anti-Semitic dogma in the arena of ideas. I want to stop it all, but I feel so helpless. The deck is stacked against people like me who are not Jews and have an opinion on the subject. It is a horrible feeling.
I have realized that the day of Tip O’Neill and Ronald Reagan sitting down together to solve the country’s problems and then later having a beer together is over. It is clear to me now that there are so many people in our country who I will never see eye to eye with, that the difference is so vast that maybe we will never have unity ever again. It is all turned upside down and my head spins thinking about it. I love freedom. I love the United States. I love the free market with its winners and losers. I love where I came from, but I’m watching it slip away. I am standing on top of a mountain screaming, please send us a leader to lead us out of this thundering incomprehension. Then, I turn on the TV and see the leftist press destroy all hope of nuance, and I bow my head in shame. Now I know we are not in Kansas anymore, Toto. There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home, and there is no place like Israel.
