We are a country in decline for so many reasons. Watching the unemployment program be hijacked by politicians and turned into a partisan ping pong, helped me make up my mind about something. I said this before and I’ll say this again, because in my heart I truly believe this. The modern United States Government is the biggest threat to the survival of the American family.
The politicians of this country represent a clear and present danger to the survival of this nation. They are becoming the single greatest enemy to the America Family and the damage they are doing seems unstoppable. The fact that either side of the left-right debate has any cheerleaders among the populace is blindingly frightening. Listening to some of my fellow Americans defend Senator Bunning and the Republicans over unemployment, left me speechless for days.
To embrace a national debt debate on the backs of the unemployed, while not realizing how that is not the venue for such a debate, scares the hell out of me. The unemployed and their extensions represent less than one percent of government spending and this is where my friends on the right want to stage their battle? The right wants to demand pay-go on the broken lives of the unemployed? My God, how misplaced and pernicious can that be?

I believe stepping on the necks of the jobless and playing some political game, while millions suffer, makes God Himself sit up at attention. I believe to do such a thing echoes in eternity. This is no small thing my fellow Americans. If this is how we as a nation are going to treat the poor and struggling among us, we are not a nation at all. To target the weakest among us, just to make some debate about government spending, is wrapped in a blanket of pure evil.
It is monstrously disingenuous to take the unemployment program and choose it as the battlefield for a government spending debate. There is an ideological cancer that has spread among the politicians and people of this country that will kill us all in the end. This game that was played in congress over unemployment, to me, was a bigger Earthquake than Haiti and Chili combined. There is no measurement or Richter scale available to measure the decline in our national priorities and morals. This was government literally picking on the poor and weakest among us.
Watching fellow Americans cheer this on, made me feel like how a Catholic Priest must have felt watching the Romans feed Christians to the lions. How dare we act this way as a nation? How dare we target the poor and unemployed? It is not their fault they don’t have a job! Politicians and bankers wiped out ten million jobs. The tax code and so-called free trade agreements made the working class pay the piper and now we are going to act like this as a nation?
Shame on you! Shame on all of you to partake in this orgy of evil and ignorance. Let us not forget you bastards on the left. All you had to do was put these extensions on the books and pay for it to avoid this spectacular malevolence. Instead, you use it as a political football and cause utter chaos in people’s lives. The whole thing made me sick!
This nation is broken and my heart cries out for the future of our children. Christian nation my ass! Tune in next week as I reveal the government mirage and maze of eligibility dates and multiple tier illusions.

I used to be conservative but after the collapse and watching people on the right beat up the poor,I’m independent now.
I am also sad to see people from the right be so cold hearted about the people who lost all their jobs.It is not the Christian way.
Do you have any thoughts about the Democrat policies that caused the near economic collapse that caused so many Americans to lose their jobs? Do you have any thoughts about the reasons employers are reluctant to hire new employees (hint: unemploment taxes resulting for up to 3 years if an employee is laid off).
Do you have any thoughts about what will happen to the currently employed and their employers when (not if) the next economic bubble bursts?).
In short, do you have any thoughts about what got us into this mess in the first place, and what it might take to get us out of it? (Hint: another stimulus bill with borrowed money is not the answer).
He did JFrykman,
He mention the free trade agreements and the tax code as “why” and if you read his column you would know he writes about it all the time and trashes the left. But here is the problem. It is you and people like you who see it left or right. It is both parties and the more you dumb people cling on to your favorite side, the more The Tea Party will grow powerful. We know it is all the bums on The Hill, both sides!
You are absolutely right! They ALL have to be voted out in November. They are all rich, so they feel nothing of this. None of them are “For The People”. All the Good things about our government are Gone. The “PARTIES” are just that. That’s why they are called Parties. They Party with our lives and think nothing of it. THEY TOOK OUR JOBS AWAY. THEY ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN. NOW THEY ARE NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE. It’s going to get scarier folks. Hold on to your hats (If you still have one). Civil War is next.
The fact that the right was able to recruit people to rail against universal health care and unemployment made me see what kind of people they are.I would not trust them with this nation ever again.Under Bush things were real bad.He did nothing for America but bring war.
The left wants handouts forever, get a damn job people. There are lots of them!
You A-Hole. There are lots of jobs? I Can tell you are still employed. There is a God ya know. He will see that you are fired ( yes fired – then you couldn’t collect if you wanted to) Then we will see how fast Mr. A-Hole gets one of those “LOTS OF JOBS” out there. This will happen to you dingbat. Some prayers do come true and I’M PRAYING FOR YOU.
When people of this country wake up and see what the government has done to us all with their banker friends it will be too late.I am sad but this country is already gone.Only the blind can not see it.
Who is going to pay for all these people not to work?
Let’s be clear about what being a Christian nation entails.
It is not the Christian way to take money from others by force (taxes) to give to those less fortunate.
Christians don’t need or want government to do what was done through churches and charities successfully for centuries.
If your neighbor needed help, the Christian thing to do was provide for them and get them back on their feet…not at the threat of imprisonment but from the generosity instilled by loving thy neighbor.
It is mis-guided to use the Bunning issue in the same light as Christianity.
ADLoggy,Mr. Rich is right,if we claim to be a Christian Nation and then put poor people out of work on the street, there is something upside down about that. This man and the Huff Post are the only ones speaking out for these people. That fact the CRich is from the right and the Huff Post is from the left and they are both on the same side says volumes about what happened here.Jesus would not have approved any of the behavior our congress has been up to in the last couple of years.I understand what he meant by that comment. You need to take your head out of the sand and see what is happening to our country.
I hate that people are blinded while Wall Street cashes in!
I never lost my job in all this but some of my family has.My brother has been looking for a job, since 11/08 and believe me is has really looked.I feel for these people.God Bless you Mr.Rich.
I hate how the news does not tell the real story here. They said look there where 10,000 new jobs this month.Meanwhile over 11,000,000 jobs blown away by Wall Street.
I for one understand the anger of CRich.People don’t care until it happens to them.At least he is one with a job who cares and sees what is happening to our country.Like he said these checks are only 1% of government spending ,this was the wrong place to make a spending argument. It was cruel. No way around that truth.
I spent one third of 2009 unemployed, desperately searching for a job. Fortunately, I finally landed one and was able to remove myself from the unemployment rolls. But it’s only a contract job and the contract is up in a few months. So I obviously support extending unemployment benefits without worrying about PayGo, right? Wrong.
This whole issue is about the Senate preening and trying to make itself look good. They’ve got 99 votes, for God’s sake. That’s 48 more than are required to pass the extension! Sorry, Bunning isn’t holding up a single thing. He is, however, pointing out that the Senate set limits on themselves yet are willing to toss those same limits right out the window as soon as the limits get in the way. Bunning has rightfully pointed out that $10 billion can easily be transferred from unallocated stimulus funds. It’s been, what, about a year since the stimulus bill was passed? If the funds are still unallocated, it seems likely that no one knows what to do with them. Why not simply use the funds to cover the unemployment extension?
It’s not hardheartedness or lack of Christian charity that’s stopping this bill from passing. It’s the Senate’s insistence on ignoring the rules they put on themselves and their desire to have a unanimous vote in favor of the extension. If the Senate insists on preening rather than imposing a little — a VERY little — fiscal responsibility on itself, how can we ever hope to stop runaway government spending?
They’re all going in November. We may be poor and down and out for the first time in our lives, but we can still vote. So vote them all out (DEMS, GOP, CONSERVATIVES, ETC) All of them. That will send a REAL MESSAGE to our NEW LEADERS for the future. The Government is broken and it’s time that WE fixed it. No matter how destitute we are. It’s our job now. Actions speak louder than words. TIME TO ACT.
>If the funds are still unallocated, it seems likely that no one knows what to do with them.
Idiot. The funds are being released slowly and carefully to make sure:
1) viable projects exist so the money isn’t wasted
2) the money doesn’t enter the economy so fast as to cause inflation
Get a clue. Go read a book.
Are you one of the many who have conveniently forgotten that it was the policies of Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II that brought us to the brink of collapse (all the GOP could think to do ways throw money at their business-owning puppetmasters) and won’t accept that Obama’s prudent approach has kept the creaky economy from finishing the meltdown that started in late 2008?
Oh, but that’s right: it’s the >>Obama<< recession (that must be true cause Fox news says so…)
“Oh, but that’s right: it’s the >>Obama<< recession (that must be true cause Fox news says so…)"
Couldn't say, since I don't watch Fox News.
Yes, Obama inherited a stinking huge pile of crap for an economy, one both parties worked hard to push to this current point. Please point out where, exactly, I wrote anything about any presidents in my message?
As for the one line you quoted from my reply, fine. I could be wrong about the stimulus funds. Note that I did give myself some wiggle room by using the word "likely," but I'm willing to admit I may be wrong on this point. But that wasn't the point of my post.
The actual point of my post wasn't about the stimulus funds. The point was that the Senate could pass this extension with a vote of 99 – 1 any time they feel like doing it. This isn't even a debatable point.
The point was that the Senate voted for PayGo yet want to ignore it as soon as it's getting in their way. If they didn't plan on following PayGo, why bother voting the rule in place to begin with? Or why not vote to toss PayGo out again and not worry about it? Sorry, but the Senate knew what the economy was like when they passed PayGo, so claims that this is some big, surprise emergency doesn't fly. All of the senators knew, or should have known, the situation with unemployment benefit extensions when they voted for PayGo.
In the future, before calling someone an "idiot," perhaps you should try responding to their actual point. You wrote lots of words "responding" to what you assumed was my opinion concerning the GOP and past presidents — none of whom I voted for, despite having been old enough to vote since 1976 — while spending no words responding to my two points.
There you go. Two simple points to debate. Unless you want to debate about debating, then you've got three.
Another jerk with a job. IF YOU DON’T THINK MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WITHOUT JOBS IS A VIABLE PROJECT – THEN YOU JUST WAIT AND SEE! Blame, Blame, Blame. They are all to blame. O’BAMA NEW THE MESS – STILL WANTED THE JOB. GOT THE JOB. CAN’T AND WON’T FIX THE MESS. HE IS THE PRESIDENT. SUPPOSEDLY THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE WORLD! Unless these people can get jobs or another extension until THERE ARE JOBS THERE WILL BE NO MONEY ENTERING THE ECONOMY. GET IT! When millions of people have no money they cannot buy. Therefore the economy will collapse.
Mr.Rich,I want to thank you for speaking out for the poor people in our nation.God Bless you and what you are doing for the least among us.
I agree. He is not a Christian.I read his BIO but he is clearly a man of God.It looks like he believes in the father and not the son, but so did Jesus.
I don’t care what the man believes in,he is right about all this.Wall Street screwed us all and people need to see what happened here.I never lost my job but I’ll be dammed if a single one of my tax dollars goes to Afghanistan or somewhere before it goes to my fellow Americans.
I love you La La La. You speak the truth.
He is just writing about how we spend our money. He keeps asking article after article where should our money go.I don’t think he cares about left-right anymore.I have read him for a long time and he seems to be fed up with all of them. You would think he would be a Tea Party guy but as far as I know he has never written a single word about them or the movement?
Mr.C.Rich you are the voice of the working man or should I say the non-working man.
Knock Three Times,, that is what someone should do on your head, you moron. Do you think unemployed people like it and a are proud, lol,, dope.
The truth is they are just lazy bums.
YOu DOLT, if you were out of a job a dunce like you would be crying and living with mom. WE have worked all our lives and through no fault of our own are unemployed. I wish you the worst.
Come on we need a Tier 5 , we have worked all our lives here and you have money for foreign aid and wars and no money for Tier 5 unemployment. In addition, Mr. Pres. your HAMP mortgage modification program is a joke. Chase bank will not ever modify a mortgage. Mr. Pres. give the banks more money, they are using it well,, ROLMFAO. Mr. One term President.

I hope that our government hears us some day. But today they are not listening. There will be no TIER V. Maybe after November. But then it will be too late for millions of us. I predict there will be lots of suicides (please don’t take your children with you) and massive crime. And our friends on the “HILL” will say “Jeesh, what the hell happened, I didn’t see this coming”. And trust me, they don’t. Just like DAMYANKEES who insists on commenting on these blogs. (Don’t let him bother you – that’s what he wants to do, he’s brain dead). If you are employed or just plain damn rich, you do not see or feel anything about this. However, now there are more of us than you (or very soon will be). Does not make for a “POWERFUL NATION”. So how are we to be proud Americans again? I still have my American flag flying out there (remember 9/11?) The worst of times and the best of times. Remember how we all banded together to protect our citizens? We have to band together again, because our middle-class (same as poverty now) citizens are in trouble again. This time from their own Government! So Sad.
