Those of us who consider ourselves serious people who pick out certain venues in American Pop Culture to forget about the troubles in politics, use American Idol as an escape.

I’ve never written a single article on American Idol, even though I’ve been watching it for years. Just the mention of something so vacuous as the number one television show in the country can bring scorn down from our very serious friends in the polypsi world. It seems only the mention of late night talk shows is acceptable in the world of political geeks like myself. However, I’m a big music fan and AI gives me the escape that I need.

Politics all day can become very depressive nowadays. The reason I find myself wanting to write about American Idol is not to highlight some great talent that I think is going to be big one day. The impetus that drives me to publish an article, is the complete lack of talent this year.

For some strange reason this year’s final twenty four was the absolute worst we have ever seen. This season has become a prodigious disappointment and I find myself questioning whether I’ll even follow it all. With the NFL being on its off season, I’m afraid American Idol is not going to provide me with that great escape from politics I need.

I think watching curling in the winter Olympics was more exciting than watching American Idol this season. The Republicans keep asking the democrats to start over on health care, but I find myself wishing Simon Cowell would start over and find another group of people to sing to us.

Trust me, it is that bad this year. I guess I’ll just have to find some other escape. I need some mental popcorn to feast on to block out how angry these politicians have made me. Maybe I should look into these vampire shows and movies that seem so popular. I am now on a search for the most vacuous vapid thing to melt my brain. Any suggestions?
