When the Republicans demand that the whole health care monstrosity be scrapped and ask the president to start over, they have the Constitution on their side. For no other reason, the president should start over.
The government forcing people to buy some product, any product, is unconstitutional. Never in the history of this republic has the government been able to force the populace to buy a particular product in the private market. The Constitution would never allow such tyranny. You can find no examples of this in our history, not one. There is not a single product in the free market that “every citizen” has to buy or else you are in trouble with the law.

All of this time spent on this, even if they pass it, will never hold up in court at the end of the day. The only Constitutional way to do that is to change the system to Medicare for all and wipe out the health insurance industry. The government can’t leave an industry in place within the “free market” and then force the entire country to buy some product against their will.
Like McCain-Fiengold, this bill is dead from jump street. I know it did not stop the government from making it law or President Bush from signing it, even after he said it was unconstitutional. The fact is they all did it and waited for the Supreme Court to knock it down. It was all an utter waste of time.
That is what is happening here. All this energy and focus means nothing, because it will never ever hold up in court. The government can not force all the people to buy a particular product in the free market. Thus the meaning of the term “free market.”
So, just let it go President Obama and unless you want to do a government single payer system, then could use please focus on jobs?

Thursday will be a joke.Like you said none of this will hold up in court, so what a waste of time.
I never looked at it that way.
If it is not legal, what is the use?
To waste our time and make us a third world nation.
You rightwingers just want people to die!
franks&beans,
From my reading of the constitution and the federalist papers, it is my understanding that the founders and those you demonize as “right-wingers” were and are willing to die for your right to support yourself and your family and live as you choose in America. The federal government was created to provide for national defense, interstate commerce and to protect its citizens from state or local governments, or others who infringed on their rights to provide for themselves and their families. It was not created to be a nanny-state.
My self-esteem, personal responsibility skills and individual liberty are all diminished when I depend on forcing others to support me.
I would fight to the death to allow you to say what you have said, but please realize generalizing and demonizing others may be easy but it will not solve the problems we face. I do not believe anyone wishes that people would just die.
Like myself I believe most Americans want everyone to have an America where everyone can live and take care of themselves and their families so others are not forced to.
I love your video game on this site.I keep playing it sitting at work.
I would love health care,I have none but I need a job first Mr. Obama.
No one can say that this president cares about the people. This constant attempt to force people to buy health care insurance while out of a job is abhorrent.
I always love the music you put on your site. Haven’t seen Talking Heads in years. Thank you ASI !!!!!!!
I’m with you bigfan.I’m always getting in trouble at work blasting some song from here. They always find something people haven’t heard or thought about in years.I love this site.
Well it looks like they will ram this through with 50 votes and turn their backs on what the people want.I still don’t see why they spend time on this with people losing their homes. This administration above any I know of at the people.
We don’t know what we got until it is gone. We’ve paved a paradise and put up a parking lot.
