I took the time out of my day, thanks to DVR, to watch the Golden Globe Awards. One of the reasons why I did that was because I knew the movie Taking Chance was nominated. This movie touched me in so many ways. In my heart, I can’t imagine a single American not feeling this movie. I never thought, for a second, that this movie would ever actually win anything. It’s too right wing. It’s too patriotic. It’s about war. It’s about the price of war.

Never in my mind did I think that the Golden Globes would ever pay homage to a film like this, but I had to watch anyway. Let me make this very clear. It was not an easy thing for me to watch Hollywood superstars standing there in their $10,000 designer dresses telling me how I should care about some Haitian that is buried under the rubble of some cement building. The hypocrisy of that is so prevalent in my brain and ever pore of my body and every ounce of my soul sees through the vanity of that.

goldenglobe2However, Taking Chance won. It won in a huge category. Kevin Bacon won the Golden Globe award for Taking Chance. I was so overwhelmed and happy that the subject matter of that film was recognized in such a liberal orgy of self-importance. As he walked toward the podium I felt such a stream of adrenaline thinking that the people now have a voice.

What happened next was somewhat of a disappointment to say the least. Kevin Bacon had to stand there in front of the entire echelon of elite Hollywood and liberalism. At this moment in time, he had to make a choice. He had to tailor his words that would be more friendly to the crowd he stood in front of or he could have spoken out for the bravery and the humanity of the United States Marines.

He stood there at the podium happy on adult beverages, in my opinion, and he thanked the crowd in front of him. As he went down the list of people that he wanted to thank and recognize for the film, something was missing. What was missing in his acceptance speech thundered and was very loud to all the people outside of that elite crowd. He never once thanked the United States Marines.

It was the Marine Corp that allowed Kevin Bacon and their production crew to see, for the first time, what transpires at Dover, Delaware when our troops return home in a body bag. It was only the United States Marines that followed this production of this movie from the very beginning to the very end to make sure that HBO and Kevin Bacon got it right.

To honor the fallen soldiers, the Marines stood side by side with HBO and Kevin Bacon to make sure that not only did they cover every detail, but that they got it right all the way down to the cleaning of the fingernails of the corpses of our fallen soldiers. In the end, as Kevin Bacon stood in front of the Hollywood elite on the stage of the Golden Globe Awards he thanked everyone under the sun and never mentioned the United States Marine Corps.

I, C. Rich, who wrote a movie review on how great that movie Taking Chance was, now stand in utter shame and regret. The fact that Kevin Bacon never once thanked the United States Marine Corps in his acceptance of his Golden Globe Award makes me sick. I am so sorry I made the statement that he deserved an award for his performance. I never thought for a moment that if he had won that he would ignore the United States Marine Corp.
