I can’t get over how ideology will just enslave a person and blind them to such a degree. I struck up a voluble conversation at the bar the other day, where this man was complaining to me how he has no medical insurance and needs a colonoscopy. He was just convinced he had polyps and that Cancer was in his future.
We started talking about the public option and how that would be a way for him to get his procedure done. The man went off on a tirade about Socialism and Communism and every right-wing talking point he could repeat from talk radio. I sat and listened to this guy wondering whether or not he realized that this ideology could actually bring forth his own death. I explained to him that the government already runs five or six different health services from Medicaid to the V.A. and asked him if that makes us a socialist nation.
I said to him, “If the government could somehow come up with another medical option for people in your situation, how would that be a bad thing?” He couldn’t seem to muster up a polemic to counter me. He looked like he never really thought about it and was just told to fight this idea on some ideological ground.
Like so many of these people, who are the cheerleaders for their own destruction, this guy was so blind. Their minds are enslaved and the intellectual death that accompanies this enslavement was on display at the bar. It is prevalent with many of my fellow right leaning friends.
I am such a rare character in the right-wing; I’ve been in this tiny minority of people from the right, that has been calling for a Medicaid for all scenario for a year now. I’ve been asking for a conservative way to fund this idea and I’m a lone wolf in the political wilderness. I guess I’ve just been screwed by insurance companies so much and can’t believe the money I’ve put into this health insurance industry. I believe to have an industry that’s sole purpose is to profit off of the sick and dying, creates a moral distinction in my mind. It is a morality dilemma that I can’t solve with any pedantic right-wing ideology. I just don’t feel such an industry should exist in the free market.
It doesn’t mean I hate the free market. I just don’t feel like there is much difference between the government denying me a medical procedure and some private health insurance company doing the same thing to me. They both will do this, so what is the difference? Every argument I’ve heard against Medicare for all, has fallen short of logic. All but how to fund it or how any of these programs will be paid for is my only concern. I am not against the idea on ideological grounds.
The funny thing is that this was never even on the table even though The White House and the entire Congress is controlled by the only party claiming the want of universal health care. Now they never even mention that congruous term. It is gone completely from their vernacular. They now say they want to cover everybody by forcing the entire nation to buy health insurance or be in trouble with the law. Of course this windfall of tens of millions of new customers for the health insurance industry becomes the lotto for them.
Can you imagine that instead of buying a lotto ticket, all the executives of United Health Care had to do was get a ballot and vote democrat? I guess that was the only lotto ticket they needed to get. Is it me or is the world completely upside down? Bonuses for Wall Street with our tax money, millions of more customers for the insurance industry, flu shots for executives not hospitals and the complete collapse of what The Democrat Party used to stand for.
The left will wake up one day like we did on the right and wonder what the Hell happened to their party. It really is something to watch them go through it. For me it is perspicuous. I’m not so inclined to forget what my party did or run back them too fast, suckling on the tit of their empty promises. I invite you to watch this video that accompanies this article of Ronald Reagan and see how far my party has drifted from its roots.
