Last Friday’s court hearing for Casey Anthony was, in my eyes, very entertaining for me, a reality check for Casey, and a small preview or what we can expect in her upcoming trial for the murder of her two year old daughter, Caylee. Bringing forth yet another pointless motion in front of judge, Stan Strickland, the defense team, in part, asked for a delay in Casey’s check fraud trial. Until, at least, the murder trial is over. It was denied. Casey is no different than any other criminal so judge Strickland ordered to go ahead and proceed with the economic charges against her.
That was one of many defense losses so far and I am willing to bet that it will not be the last. We also were treated to a sub-par show by Andrea Lyons herself, the lawyer who insults death penalty jurors comparing them to being murderers themselves. Her first argument concerning why Casey shouldn’t be up against the DP was so full of the ahs and ums that it was difficult to stay with her. She might be a self-considered expert on trying to get criminals from dying, but her oration was remedial at best. Hard to be convincing, Andrea, when your words lack confidence.
Ms. Lyons said her piece hoping to get the honorable judge Strickland to think about the justification of Casey facing capital punishment. Then Jeff Ashton steps up to the podium. Speaking for the state of Florida, Jeff Ashton reiterated to the court the main reason the death penalty will be the option used. Bluntly and to the point, Mr. Ashton, in sometimes heated fashion, reminded the court that there is a dead little two year old. He boldly went on to describe the condition the remains of Casey’s dead daughter. Using the inclusion of the duct tape found adhered to the skull as emphasis to the heinous events bordering on the boundary of atrocity.
Jeff Ashton shocked those in attendance to the reality. So much so that members of the audience began to walk out of the courtroom. Most notably, George Anthony. After hearing Mr. Ashton bluntly illustrate factual knowledge of his own daughter’s destruction of his granddaughter’s life, George walked out. He apparently didn’t want to hear it any longer. Casey didn’t want to hear it anymore either. You could clearly see and hear Casey asking Andrea to, ‘make it stop, make them stop.’ Horrible to hear what you did out loud isn’t Miss Anthony.
That, Casey Anthony, is just a taste of what lies ahead. The whole country received a sneak preview, a theatrical trailer, if you will, of what lies ahead for you. Prosecution had their theories. Theories that our based on conclusions with only one direction in which to point our fingers. That is toward you Casey. Poor little Caylee. I bet she begged you to stop didn’t she? She had no one to ask and make you stop. I am glad Mr. Ashton did not stop. I wanted you to be reminded of what you did in just a small way. A glimpse into your future of the trial to come, where everyday you’ll be reminded just like you were on Friday. That’s one opening that I would gladly walk the red carpet. I might even get to see Joan Rivers!
