Every and any debate of the illegal immigration problem on the Mexican border simply ends the same way each time. Nothing changes. No matter what obvious reason that we as Americans put forth to close the Mexican border, our government won’t budge. After 9/11 and the carnage that ensued, the government would not close the border. A full scale narco-war breaks out on the border and still nothing from our government. Our economy collapses and millions of Americans are put out of work, while Mexican workers still get their forty hours a week, yet nothing gets done. All of the crime committed by illegal Mexican immigrants and the stress on our hospitals and schools still had no effect on our government. Even a law that says they must build a fence gets ignored.

One reason after the other the United States government under either party will not close the border. When an old virus pops its head out again and threatens to kill a lot of people, there is no change on the border. One of the times this virus popped up it killed tens of millions of people, yet this still is not a good enough reason to close the border for our politicians.

So unless your insane, one would have to come to the conclusion that no matter what, the government will never close the Mexican border. Let me say that again. No matter what the reason, the government will never close this border. Once you come to terms with that then you can stop banging your head against the wall. Your government ignores you and there is nothing you can do about it.

Very few subjects have been debated more than this issue, yet there is no change. Never have there been so many legitimate reasons why our government should do something and such an outcry from its citizens. However, this is the biggest showcase in the history of self-governance in where it is clear we are not self-governed. This is the biggest example of the government of “We the People” becoming not the American Dream but the American illusion.

The only thing left to do is understand why. Why won’t the politicians close the Mexican border? Well, after a lot of research and study, I have found the real reason. The real immigration problem and its causes are now clear to me. It was right under my nose the whole time. America cannot afford to close the Mexican border because we just can’t produce a decent taco here.

Even before there was a Taco Bell there was a chain called Taco Viva. Going back decades we simply have not be able to put together a tasty taco. Taco Bell and the little meat they put in their tacos in no way gives us the real Mexican experience of eating a taco. Somehow, like Cuban cigars, we cannot reproduce the quality that is found in things coming from their place of origin. A good taco is something America cannot be forced to go without. The desire to eat decent Mexican food, far overshadows any problems we might encounter by leaving the border open. Let’s face it; they make a damn good taco.

Our history of the world goes back many years. Here is some research on how our love for tacos goes back a long way:

“1520 -Bernal Diaz del Castillo (1496-1584), a Spanish soldier who came with Hernán Cortés to the New World, wrote an intriguing and detailed chronicles called A True History of the Conquest of New Spain. He also chronicled the lavish feasts that were held. From the article by Sophie Avernin called Tackling the taco: A guide to the art of taco eating:

The first “taco bash” in the history of New Spain was documented by none other than Bernal Diaz del Castillo. Hernan Cortes organized this memorable banquet in Coyoacan for his captains, with pigs brought all the way from Cuba. It would, however, be a mistake to think that Cortes invented the taco, since anthropologists have discovered evidence that inhabitants of the lake region of the Valley of Mexico ate tacos filled with small fish, such as acosiles and charales. Small live insects replaced the fish and ants in the states of Morelos and Guerrero, while locusts and snails were favorite fillings in Puebla and Oaxaca.

1914 – The first-known English-language taco recipes appeared in California cookbooks beginning in 1914. Bertha Haffner-Ginger, in her cookbook California Mexican-Spanish Cook Book said tacos were:

“made by putting chopped cooked beef and chili sauce in a tortilla made of meal and flour; folded, edges sealed together with egg; fried in deep fat, chile sauce served over it.”

1929 – Pauline Wiley-Kleemann in here cookbook Ramona’s Spanish-Mexican Cookery, featured six taco and tacquito recipes. These included recipes for Gorditos that came from Santa Nita or Xochimilco, Pork Tacos composed of snout, ears, jowls, kidneys, and liver, Cream Cheese Tacos, Egg Tacos, Mexican Tacos, and Tacquitos Taqueria or taco trucks are found throughout the West and Southwest of the United States. There are two kinds of taco trucks; traveling trucks that cruise around neighborhoods and business areas, and non-cruising trucks parked permanently in lots.”

America couldn’t possibly be asked to end its relationship with a good Mexican taco. There is no other reason that makes this much sense. With all the study and thought about America and its border problems, the surreptitious truth is, it’s all about the taco. We are so beyond trying to make sense of it. Trying to figure out for the life of us, why won’t they close this border? Unless you can give me a better reason, I will stay with my taco theory.  “Viva La Taco”
