The Minutemen today, especially in Arizona, is setting the wrong example to the world. Undermining the very ingredients which made America what it is today. Besides the native American population, most of our ancestors came here for the same reasons they do now. Illegal or not, immigrants want a better life. Why would we, as a country, get in the way of that premise? Give us your weak, your poor, and the desolate. America will take them. This vow is inscribed at the base of the statue of Liberty.Today’s minutemen are making a big mistake. Take the current problem at our southern border. Immigration from Mexico has been occurring for decades, but lately, developing at an alarming rate. Some of our countrymen have taken it upon themselves to protect the southern border. An organization called The Minutemen Civil Defense Corps is just one of many groups. Their mission statement is as follows: To secure United State’s Borders and coastal boundaries against unauthorized and unlawful entry of all individuals, contraband, and foreign military.

Civilians doing the job of our military? Making their own interpretations of who is unauthorized, and what might be contraband? Too many grey areas here for a successful implementation. This has lawsuit written all over.

First of all, the minutemen are only adding to the definition of, and not it’s emulation. When I think of minutemen, I remember before the American Revolution, how some of the colonists would volunteer, within a minutes notice, to fight the British. True American patriotism. The minutemen of today are thought of as connected to days of old. Today’s groups are trying to keep hard working individuals, who’s only fault is trying to obtain a dream. The very same dream Americans themselves hold. A better life. Hispanic immigrants work very hard, doing jobs other Americans won’t think of doing. An essential part needed to keep our country stable.

Most Americans complain about what is wrong with America, but never do anything about it. They just sit on their fat butts, whining about being unemployed, because they want 22 dollars an hour to work at a fast food joint.

We don’t need civilian, wanna-be, soldier-of-fortunes, taking it into their own hands, what our military should do. What needs to happen? Our boys, from abroad, need to be brought back home. From Iraq and Afghanistan. Get them home where they belong. Protecting our interests here, at our borders. Stopping potential terrorist threats instead of perceived actions of the innocent, by untrained civilians. Our military can apply the true meaning of minutemen at a moments notice, if allowed to patrol our borders. What are you willing to do? Continue to sit on your fat ass, your getting fatter by the way, and cry cause you don’t have a job? Get up and do something then. Help those who will do the jobs that America won’t or suck-it-up and go apply for jobs that immigrants can’t. Just don’t become a minuteman. A huge waste of time. The mistake of the minutemen is that they’re there, ruining the very essence of what the word means.
